Funmi and Garikai are such a lovely couple and they have the cutest daughter! We had great fun shooting their Pembroke Lodge Wedding in November. The weather was hideous, but that didn’t stop us from getting some amazing photos of their special day. I specialise in Richmond Wedding Photography and know Pembroke Lodge well, so having to shoot indoors wasn’t a problem, as I already knew exactly where to get the best shots.
The ceremony was at the Parish church of St Stephen in Thornton Heath and I met Funmi at her hotel to capture her and her bridesmaids getting ready. My good friend Steve Urwin was with Garikai and his groomsmen. I always work with a second photographer, usually Steve, as we can capture so much with two of us there on the day.
The rain really came down on the way to Pembroke Lodge so I knew there was virtually no chance of making use of the beautiful gardens. But, the front of the house has some shelter, so I posed the newlyweds inbetween the columns and braved the weather while I took some shots. I got soaked, but hey, we got some lovely pictures and that’s what counts. The rain wasn’t the only issue, because it was November it gets dark early. We managed to get some natural light photos and then it was time for the off camera flash to get some classy images. I really like the one of them kissing in the doorway of the entrance to The Belvedere with the empty patio to the right of the shot.
There wasn’t a first dance in the evening, instead Funmi and Garikai serenaded each other, it was very romantic. And not long after that, the dancefloor was bouncing with what seemed like every single guest jumping up and down to Mans Not Hot!
